86 Monte Carlo O.D. shifter, but for which transmission?

I have the stock overdrive floor shifter out of a 1986 Monte Carlo (not an SS model). The transmission was already long gone when I showed up to remove the shifter so I have no idea what transmission was in there. I believe the 86 Monte Carlo could have had either the 200-4r or the 700r4. Would the same shifter work on either transmission? If not, is there a way to tell which transmission this shifter is for without resorting to simply trying it out?

I think they are the same for all four speed automatics.

no G-Body got the TH700-R4 from the factory if it's an overdrive they are all TH200-4R

besides that the shift pattern between the two is the same so you should be able to use it on either
