want to swap to a 9 inch in my 79 malibu(drag only,no street use) what should I be looking for as in length, year of car 9 inch came from and things like that. was on the speedway website and saw the weld on spring perch and shock mount tabs but what do the lower/upper control arms mount to, didn't see anything for them.

If I get a 9, buy the shock mounts, spring perch mounts and the control arm mounts do I just put it under car and bolt it up or is there more to it? Maybe a different shaft or shorter/longer one. Will the 9 yoke bolt to a chevy shaft. How about the control arms, do they have a swap kit?

I know this has been covered over the years but if you could point me in the right direction. The reason for the 9 and not a 12/10 bolt cuz someone listed in the classifieds (9 inch rearends for sale, many to choose from, call with needs. $75) so, I thought I would at least give a look. Have a 7.5 under car now but I want to add somemore power to the car and know the 7.5 isn't made to take the abuse of slicks and hard launches.

If you mount your own brackets ( like thru speedway ) and mount them at same factory locations ( just on the nine inch housing ) you can use standard control arms - or stock control arms .

As for the yoke , no the yoke itself won't bolt on to a nine inch .. .. Perhaps you mean can you get a conversion u joint ... That is a yes , you would get a conversion u joint from the different series used . Example .. i use a grand national driveshaft and use a conversion u joint to convert to 1330 series that my 9 inch uses .

Myself , i said to heck with it and just bought a housing already set up from Quickperformance.com 345.00 plus shipping . They can make it factory length or any other length . And you can have the option of using different style housing ends. ( can use ford 1/2 or new style 3/8th ) for i think 75.00 or 80.00 you can get gm billet ends to use existing 10 / 12 bolt brake setup , which may save you some money in the long run if you don't have the 9 inch brake setup .

So, let me see if I got this right. If I get a complete 9 drum to drum and weld the brackets on, then get a conversion U-joint to bolt to my stock driveshaft, and stock or upgraded GM control arms for a G-body then I can just bolt it on?

If the brackets get put in the correct locations . Yes as far as bolting up . Driveshaft length may be different . Mine needed 1 inch shorter then the factory driveshaft .

Depending on the width rear you get , your tires/rims may sit further in or out .
