Just bought a Moser 9" for my Monte. I'm on a strict budget due to school, work, etc.. My question is: My axles are 35 spline, if I get a mini spool and correct gears, will they all fit into a stock 9" 3rd member for now? Reason for doing, I can pick up stock 3rd member for $50 and want to get the Monte rolling again. I know it wont be the strongest, but I'm only going to be pushing ~400hp. I'm a new guy when it comes to rear ends.
Conclusion:
Want to fit 35 spine axles/spool/gears into a STOCK 3rd member. If the carrier is set for 3 series gears, can I buy a 4.10 kit that will work?

Hope you guys can understand,
Cory

No. 35 spline parts require a case with a 3.25 bore and either a spool, Detroit Locker or a Wavetrac. There is nothing else available for the 35 spline axles in a 9 inch Ford. With 400 HP you should have went with 31 spline axles. There is no 2, 3 or 4 series stuff for the 9 inch Ford. Everything fits the same differential or spool.

You need to get a spool, a 31 spline is around $80-100 but seems like all the 33-35 spline spools are like $190-200 or more.

That 35 spline is dedicated race only parts, bummer. You might get on yellowbullet (http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=330862) and see if someone would trade.

At least 31 spline stuff, you can find used or from trucks, junkyards, etc.

I will agree with the above posts. 35 spline won't work. You need an aftermarket 3.25 bore case. big $$$$
I just bought a strange pro-case for 35 spline with a detroit locker and gears. It was around $1500
To go super cheap you could possibly get stock axles cut and resplined to work in a stock case. Does your nine inch have ford ends?

Rear does have ford ends. Tried to register into yellowbullet but says cannot register at this time. Whats the biggest axle that can be used with stock 3rd member. Just 31 or can you run 33 spline too?

yes, you can run 33 spline in a stock 3.062 case. Also I think the 2.8 case is much more common but i could be wrong. I don't know how big you can go in it.

The only thing available for 33 spline axles is a spool. There are no lockers or limtied slip differentials available for a 33 spline Ford.

Looks like I'll either keep my 35 spline or go to 31. I got this rear cheap as a moser housing with the 35 spline axles. Did not know what I was getting myself into. Thanks for the help guys, you save me alot of headaches!

maybe you could take your stock case and get it align bored to 3.25? then you could use the 35 spline axles with a posi or locker designed for a 3.25 case.
The 35 spline stuff is very strong and since you have it you should try and use it. Or possibly you could find a good used 3.25 case. I would try http://www.460ford.com the classified section allways has lots of 9" stuff.

Boring the case might cost as much or more than just getting a new case. You would have to cut the threads in the case for the spanners after it was bored and get new spanners.
