The new battery keeps going dead every week when it's not started on my 78 El Camino. This started happening after I wired in my electronic cruise control. The switch for the cruise control is off, when this happens. After I charge the battery, the voltage gauge says it's charging at 14 volts when the engine is running. Any ideas what I need to check to solve this problem?

Pull the fuse for the cruise control or unhook the electric connection, then let the El camino set. That should let you know if the cruise control is the cause of the short.
you can unhook the negative side of the battery then hookup a test light on the battery post and the battery cable if the light in on then you have a draw on the battery. start by removing fuses intel the light goes out . when the light go out that will be the draw/short.
