i am putting in some lowering springs front and back in my 81 malibu. when i took out the front springs there was an isolator on top the spring, but it was very beat up. nobody seems to have a replacment part # for these. ](*,) energy suspension has a buntch in there catalog but nothing specific to the malibu. are you putting anything back in or does someone have some part#.
thanks in advance

From Advanced Auto Parts website for rear springs:

Moog Coil Spring - Rear K6203-2
TRW Coil Spring - Rear CC100

Kind of weird, actually, the listing is grayed out for the insulator, but if you will click the link to the springs, you will find the insulator listed there.

I looked for the front at several sites and couldn't find anything that resembles the stock insulator. I tried different bodies (el camino, etc), and even looked at s10's since some of the front springs for s10's fit.

Nothing for the front that I could find. They must have decided it isn't a necessary reproduction/part.

Here is my opinion on the matter:

The front has enough weight on it, and the springs are high enough rating that you don't need the insulator on the front. The springs aren't likely to move at all or make any noise once they are in there.

The rear, on the other hand, the spring rate is a good deal less and there isn't that much weight on them, so I would install the insulators just to make sure I didn't have to listen to them squeak or make noise if they tried to move around.

So front, no...rear, yes.

What I have done on other projects is to just take a short piece of rubber line like fuel hose or transmission line. Then slice it on one side from end to end and wrap it around the coil spring. Works great and no noise. cool.gif
