Control arm travel limiters

Just wondering what everyone thinks of the home made limiter so far. It's going to be a temporary thing until I can save up for some TRZ's with the built in limiter. The flat Speedway arms complicate things and hit the frame before the upper BJ binds, so this is why I did this. Right now it's adjusted to stop travel right before the arm hits the frame (I can easily move a zip-tie between the arm and frame), but can adjust it if needed.

The eyelets are both 3/8", and the cable itself is 1/4". The one in the frame is not threaded to the frame although it does look like it in the picture

After the first good "yank" the eyelets will be bent and your adjustment will be off.

^^Agree. Is that plastic-coated cable? Good idea, but I think those clamps will let loose right away. Why do you want to limit suspension travel? According to 5-Door, for a drag car, you want as much front suspension travel as possible to help load the rear tires. He went so far as to modify the front upper a-arms to get 8 inches of suspension travel up front. I'm far from a chassis designer, though :)

The only reason I'm trying to limit travel is because the uppers actually touch the frame and they have no stops on them, so the frame acts as a stop.

What else can I do? Maybe just get a piece of 5/8" heater hose and cover the arm where it touches the frame to soften the blow?

I understand what you mean. I don't have to worry about dragging the bumper, so I want all the travel I can get. But still don't want the a-arms bottoming (or topping however you want to look at it) You are on the right track, just I think the eye bolts will bend.

I have this:

Cool thanks. I was hoping the eye bolts would be fine cause thats the biggest size I could find. I think ill slide some heater hose around the arms and take the one I made off. Plan on going to the track this Saturday to test the new setup out. Not sure if the car will pull the wheels but I don't want to damage anything if it should.

Do you have a link to that one or is it just the universal comp one?

Appreciate the help. Went to the track yesterday and was cutting 1.5 60's consistantly and wasn't even doing too good of a burnout (again...) and was told I got air under the left front. Looked at everything and it's all good. I just removed the limiters I made and wrapped the upper arm with heater hose. Gonna save up some and just get some Spohn or TRZ uppers and be done with it.

I run very similar upper control arms on my big block Monte with no limiters,it really stretches out the front end.I was wondering if there is too much travel in it?I've never measured the travel, but it feels like 10 inches or more! The car doesn't hook on nitrous,as soon as the front wheels are off the ground it spins. Is the travel part of my issue?I have 12" 200lb coil over springs on the rear, with a anti-roll bar,and Comp 3 way shocks.Up front I run Moroso springs for a small block & use Comp 3 way shocks,no limiters or sway bar.
