Hey guys, just a little intro: My dad and I picked up an '83 cutlass supreme brougham a few years back. It's come a long way since then including paint, everything f-41 except the steering box, speakers, head unit, trunk carpeting...more currently swapping out the 3.8 v6 for an olds 355, which brings me to the crossmember topic.

I know it's been brought up before, but I cant seem to find any pictures, or the pictures don't load up. I'm going to run dual exhaust, so I picked up a dual-hump crossmember from an A-body (I think...take a look at the link and let me know what you think) The crossmember needs shortening, and I need to make some mounts and I would feel more confident fabbing up the mounting brackets and such if I had pictures to compare to.

Pics of the x-member... I'm a g-body forum member "crossing over" if you will. lol

the pictures wouldn't load on the page below, it might just be my computer idk

Greetings :D I recognize your username from GBF. I had mine welded with a piece of 3x4" tubing, and the bottom cut out.

That looks pretty clean. I already have the a-body crossmember, so I would rather make the brackets than have to weld up my stock crossmember.

I read another crossmember thread, and I know 454Mali has done this conversion... so 454mali, if you are reading this, pictures and advice would be much appreciated.

Or if anyone has done this specific conversion/swap, help is appreciated.

So the 3X4 tubing was used on the actual crossmember right?

Does anybody have any ideas on how to extend those mounts back (where the x-member mounts to the frame?)

I'm guessing I could bend up a piece of 1/8" sheetmetal then weld it up, or I could use square tubing or something. Any other ideas?

Yeah, I saw that, but was wondering if it would work for the A-body crossmember. It says it works for a crossmember swap within the 80's years, but I have a totally different crossmember.

That mounting part definitely needs extended back, but I don't know how much. And that part from Crossmembers.com is $60 and I'd be taking a bet on whether or not it is long enough.

I got your pm and sent you one back. That crossmember extension you may already have depending on what year cutty you have. All that one he pictured is for using a g-body 200-4r/th400 crossmember in the earlier cars without the mount from the factory. You may have to make something similar to that at whatever length you need or weld up something like I did. Heres the pics I sent him showing how I ended up doing it incase anyone else is curious.
