Hey guys, new to the forms and Gbody's in general as this is my first one....and i'm needing some help please.

I have recently purchased a '79 Malibu that is a bit of a project car. I'm needing help with reinstalling the heater box/interior air door box assembly. The previous owner removed them as the factory A/C box on the firewall was in pretty poor shape and no usable. I purchsed the Heater Only box Master Kit from Gbodyparts.com, but i'm still needing the interior heater box it appears......

And, ANY info on how to get it in/out of the car (do I need to pull the dash???) maybe even a link to a writeup/ect would be AWESOME help to this guy :(.

I have found a few of the interior heater box's on Ebay, but i'm not sure what all Gbodies will interchange with my '79 Malibu (Monte Carlo? ect?).

Here's a pic of what i'm starting with:

And some info on the build as well. Doing a Carb'd 6.0L LQ9 swap with Heads/Cam/Nitrous:

Here's how the interior sits now, looks like everything is there less the interior heater box:

Thank you guys very much in advance. All that's really holding me back is getting this firewall box/heater box installed then i'm ready to drop the powertrain and get her on the road :).

it looks like the duct work is gone,i shouldn't be able to see the backside of the glove box.it looks like some of the Vacuum Line Harness is there to that connects everything from the dash control to the system but you need the whole thing. that dash style you have is 78-81.82 and up looks different.Ive never tried to install that duct with the dash in place but hopefully someone will chime in and help you with that one.there is a vacuum ball reservoir that hooks to the intake that looks to be missing also.take a look under that dash see if there's anything left behind.looks like a sweet build my friend.

Thanks for the help :). I was able to get a hold of a complete heater/AC box from an '88 Monte, and it looks correct at first glance. I was unaware the blend door and mode door box was part of the under hood heater/Evaporator box. I need to test fit it yet, but it looks like it will work! Still looking for any insight/help though, I've never touched one of these......

Putting it in and out is easier with pass. inner fender off. It will piece of cake. You wanting to put air in, or just heat???? I went from ac cars to heat only on all 7. I need the room for the big block. Have any questions ask. Jim

Ok, thanks for the heads up :).

Looks like all the duct work is still under the dash thankfully, just the heater box was removed:

As well as all the controls/lines:

I also found the blower resistor harness/wiring in my pile of parts supplied with the car!

Looks like the case from the Monte Carlo is correct, will test fit it this weekend :).

Maybe the upper duct work is in place, such as for the windshield defog/defroster, but the lower interior duct work iappears to be not present. Unless, it's among a pile of parts that went along with the sale of the Malibu.

2X on the plans for whether there's intentions of getting the factory a/c back on-line. If build plans do not include a/c, then search for a heat only box. the existing Monte HVAC box is sellable so there's the possibility of recoupling the investment.

The Malibu looks good, same colors as my '79. Dashpad also looks okay.

Thanks :)

I believe i've found all of the pieces to the lower half in some more parts that came with the car. I'm pretty much done with the powertrain, and will move onto the interior next, as well as heater box assembly.

HOPEFULLY this Monte box works out.....this thing looks like a REAL pita to to remove with the engine installed :(
