I just purchased a low mileage(20,000 original) "78" Malibu with a stock 4-speed manual transmission. Does anyone know how many 4-speeds were produced in "78" ? Might I have a "rare" find/mint condition Malibu???

I searched the web for stats and facts about production but could not find any specific info. Could you steer me in the right direction...

They are sorta' rare. My Caballero was factory four speed.

It was a non-air, manual steer, with dealer add on air.
Lots of the stick cars are V6, or the ones I have encountered were.
I have seen two that were non-air stick, one three speed and one four.
Seen about four other El Caminos stick shift around here in OK. Couple of V6 three speed on the floor Malibu four doors.

I guy I used to drag race with has a factory 305, four speed car.

So, sorta' rare?

Thanks Bar50. I will have to post some pics. I'm new to this and I'm using my friends computer because he has high speed internet. He also has a digital camera so I'll see if he can include pictures.

IIRC, the option list shows 4 speeds were less than 2% of the production run. Pictures please!

Tommy, where can I find that info on the web?

I don't know if you'll find much on the web. I got that info from a book at home. I know nothing's 100% accurate, but this book has been really good so far. IIRC, It's called the Encyclopedia of Chevelles or something like that.
