For some reason I continue to burn up ignition coils, motor is grounded to battery and battery is grounded to fender, I have 12 volts going to the coil, what else could be wrong? Should I try grounding somewhere else? I am using an accel hei distributor and coil. This is like the 4th coil i've burnt up in the last few months.

Is the coil just failing or is it actually "burning up". I have run many HEI's for years both factory and aftermarket with few failures.

well the other day I was driving and it just started misfiring and then kaput, wouldn't crank back up or anything, my tach was going all haywire so I instantly assumed it was the coil, so I changed it and it cranked up fine ran well for about a week, well yesterday I was driving home and it started misfiring and backfiring, so I can only assume that the wires are arching off eachother at the coil cause I had that happen to me about 6 months ago with a stock coil.

Did you put dithermal paste on the bottom of the coil when you installed it?

Replace your ignition module, see if your problem goes away.
