The starter on the Nova has starting acting funny. When it's cool it will start easily. When it heats up it will not crank and the solenoid doesn't click. It will jump with a srewdriver which makes me question if this is just heatsoak into starter. This developed all of a sudden. The car we rewired last year with a painless kit and I'm wondering if it starts with screwdriver would it more than likely be from key to starter rather than a starter issue. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

sounds like heat soak, or maybe something worse like you sad it could be the key to starter wires. but i'd try to put a heat shield on it if you think its heat soak and see if that helps. or you can rewire that part of the car, it may be less money than a heat shield.

you may also want to try a ford style starter. im confused if a screw driver jump would work but not the key
