Ok what would be the best senario:

A. Just buy an aftermarket case and swap current guts into it with a new planetary. Have a stock case and I'm done messing with shields and blankets.

B. Buy a complete trans already built from someone ATI, etc.

C. Have the guy that helps me with trans stuff for well over 15 years piece together the parts and build one and only save a couple hundred.

I want to go with the least headache. I'm also leaning towards the new trans due to the fact I'll gain a backup. However I have never bought a complete trans from any companies and don't want to have to go through the trans before I use it. I have been shopping for something with a 1.80 straight cut set and good for some growing hp wise room in the future. I don't know of pro's and con's from brand to brand. I do like the quality of stuff I have purchased from ATI over the years. Convertor is a non issue since I have a neighbor that builds them.

Pick C, you need a spare.

The best upgrade is a TH-400 ;)

I'd go with plan A. However, I suggest you get a good core, pirate the pump, high drum and other hardware--then build "A" using the valve body from your existing PG. Buy a good Alto kit that includes there 8 clutch high drum clutches and new wide band.

Keep your old PG together, without the valve body as backup if you feel you need it. A properly assembled PG will live.

i would have to say "B", buy a new one already built by someone, i.e; ATI, Coan, etc.. that is what i will do when i feel i am in need of a new one rather than having my old one gone through. saves time. you should have a spare on hand for that just in case scenario! if you do buy a new one please make sure the place asks you about what you have in your car, i.e; weight, gear, can, hp, torque, tire size, etc.. your neighbor builds conveters so you should have a converter stall speed suggestion ready for them as well, wether or not you want a trans brake, get it built with good clutches (Alto), turbo splined (at least), rollerized, etc.. just my 2 cents man!!!

don't go with the t-400 as earlier stated they suck the the life out of your combo. go with the good case and leave broken pg problems behind. 400's unless built by kilgore or a reputable 400 builder only rob hp from your combo.

http://www.sloansracingtrans.com/ Talk to Bob or Jimmy, 2 of the nicest and most knowledgable about a glide I know of. I had them build me a glide with an ATI case and a 1.80 gearset as well as some of their "homegrown" goodies.

Get ahold of Donnie Williams in Blue Springs, he'll solve your problem.
