PS pulley removal

My 79 Malibu PS pump has a pressed on pulley which I have too remove. The center looks almost like a large TORX bit. What is it? My mechanic said there should be threads there. What gives????? Paul

I just replaced the PS pump on my car the other week. As you said the pulley is actually pressed on, so you need a pulley puller to get it off and then put it back on again. I rented one from Advance Auto Parts.

It's a special puller. Made for powersteering.
