Hi,We have a 78 Malibu and would like to mount the battery in the trunk. Is there a special kit that works best? Is there a perfered side to mount the battery and what is the best kind of battery to use? The car is a 350 SB. Thanks for any help,Davey

There are kits available from jegs with a battery box and cables etc. Alot of guys put the battery on the right hand side of the trunk and run the cable up the frame rail to the starter. Also you may want to put a 12 volt lug on the wheelwell so you'll have some juice up front for accessories. Hope this helps Wagondude

I do not like the kits.......They supply too small a battery cable and really lame bat boxes......

If your looking to do it once buy some 1/0 welding cable and have a battery mount fabbed

I agree ,not only is it better when done it usually costs less in the long run. Also even tho many don't do it I like to run the ground with the same size cable directly to the engine. At the very least if you you ground the batt to the frame use a ground cable frame to engine at least the size of your hot.The ground circuit is just as important as the hot side and will cause problems if not up to snuff.
