hey,
been awile sence i've done this, any advise is welcome

truck is a 87 1/2 ton chevy 4wd with a granny 4 speed

Combo:

.40 flat tops

stock 87 truck heads

CAM (i was hoping to use the stock springs)
Duration Advertised 278° Intake/288° Exhaust
Duration @ .050'' 204° Intake/214° Exhaust
Lift @ Valve .420'' Intake/.442'' Exhaust
Lift @ Cam .280'' Intake/.295'' Exhaust
Lobe Separation Angle 112°
Intake Centerline 107°
Intake Timing @ .050" Open 5° ATDC
Close 29° ABDC
Exhaust Timing @ .050" Open 44° BBDC
Close 10° BTDC

Edelbrock performer intake

Holley 650 spread bore mech secondays

long tube headers

pretty much everything else is stock

i haven't built a motor in 10 years, wish me luck

Thanx, every thing went togeter real smooth until we went to instal the rockers and noticed one head was set up for self alining and one was not :x (see pics) wich makes me ask if you can use self alining rockers on a head cast for none self alining?

you can use those rockers on both heads....your truck isn't fuel injected anymore?

Thank you,
and to answer your question i'm swithing it to a carb/HEI set up, later on i plan on swaping over to vortec heads with a more thought out cam, got the current edelbrock cam NIB for $50 as a matter of fact the whole combo was put to geather from stuff i already had or i god cheap the only thing i spent money on machine work

dose any body know if my stock springs will be ok? i don't plan pulling much past 4500rpm do to the swirl port heads :-k

i think the max on the stock springs is .460'' i do know thats that cam will work with the stock set up because my brother has it in his camaro

cool, i will keep my stock springs, just curious how strong dose your brothers engine run?

just an fyi I purchased my 062 casting vortec heads off of craigslist for $200 complete with rockers and all. They run perfect too! so just keep your eye out for them.

his motors pretty much stock other then the cam, intake, carb and headers and duals with dynomax turbos mufflers. its a pretty nice combo and it pulls well and has good torque in low rpm range and maxes out at 4500 rpm
