Are there any companies that make an upgraded power steering gear? I've seen a few in summit, but they are all manual. Is there a factory gear that is a quicker steering ratio than the one on my malibu?

The Monte SS had one and it was 2.5 turns lock to lock or less. I've had one in my car and it worked great, and really made the steering feel better. I'm not sure what you'd have to do to get one, around here the parts stores can't figure out which one to order anymore so I am back to using a low ratio box and they are a pain!

What year monte carlos would have this steering gear? Is there a matching rpo code or a way to tell by looking at it?

If you're going to use 16" or bigger wheels or you like a high effort box, get a rebuilt box for a 3rd gen WS6 Trans Am or IROC Camaro. It has the high ratio you want. If the above doesn't apply, the Monte SS box is your ticket.

I do have 16" wheels, but I'm unsure if I am looking for a high effort box. I'd like to tighten up the steering to autocross every now and then, but the car is going to be a daily driver and I don't want it to be difficult to manuever in a parking lot.

Forgot to mention the year, 85-87 I think. 87 for sure though.

Then you need to change the spring & valve in the pump. After that it will feel just like a WS6/IROC. Lookie:

Ok, so just to clarify, I'd be replacing the spring and valve in the iroc box? Or am I replacing part of my power steering pump? This will keep the quick ratio and parking lot maneuverability.

The WS6/IROC box works with a stock g-body pump, but the effort is increased. If you do the valve mod on the pump, you end up with more assist boost like the factory WS6/IROC.

Ok, I've got it now. Well I plan to do an LS1 swap, so how would that affect the setup?
