Well i bought a 8.5 awhile back..i removed cover to pull the axles to put in longer studs and put on a rear braced cover..and i think i have an auburn unit in here...i couldnt really find any distintive marks on it..just looks like i remember them??..just looking to confirm my fears..lol..

It should have the Auburn AG on the other side of the ring gear. But your right it looks like a Auburn. The 8.5 I had had the big S spring. Doug

No, they're both Cone type Posi's. Their whole life is spent filling the Case/Housing with metal as they wear. 
yea, my buddy had one in his 12 sec. nova..worked ok on drag radials..he bolted up slicks..broke first time..lol..i will be on drag radials lets hope it lasts a season!..i'm no engineer but why would they think this was a good design?..well i guess they have sold quite a few to folks....once!..lol

I'm not knocking Eaton, but the cone clutch material that gets into the lube poses no issues in the rear. The plates in an Eaton are carbon fiber, a LOT more aggressive on a gear & it wears faster...
