As has been discussed, there have been those whose Greg Welds would not clear the dust cap on the rotor due to the center cap height on the wheel. I waited for them to release a new center cap, but got tired of waiting and bought my front wheels anyway. Well, I had no such trouble with mine. The dust cap doesn't even touch the center cap. Here is a pic of them mounted on the front of my car. They look dull because I took these pics tonight and I had to lighten the pics to be able to see them. New rotors will be installed soon and I think I will get some of that Duplicolor brush-on caliper paint. I like them, and they were only $125 each. They are 15x3.5 and the tires are 165r15 volkswagen tires.

One possible explanation is that there were 3 different spindles used on the 1978-1988 Malibu. 1978 was unique and had a unique brake rotor. Then in 1979, there was a 1st design and then a 2nd design. The 2nd design is the same used until 1988. I don't know exactly what the difference is, but I would guess that the outer bearing on the 1978 spindle is closer inboard than on the later spindles.
