Why this hoosier isn't buying hoosier tires

So I've been looking for a set of DOT drag tires for my elco. Seems the BFG drag radials are the preferred tire, but we're only talking 12s here so just about any drag tire should suffice.

So, logic says, try to support the local manufacturer. They've got a distribution center right next to raceway park, it all makes sense.

Retail pricing is $25 a tire more than equivalent BFGs, but I'm thinking, hey bet the local distributor has preferred pricing since they're Hoosier tires at the track store in indianapolis. WRONG! I pay full retail, same as somebody buying from a tire store in florida.

OK, so I'm over that and still willing to support the local guy. Next step, actually laying my hands on them. Distributor says 9 days order time. :? WTF, I could walk to the friggin factory and back in 9 days.

So I check the tire rack. BFGs, delivered to my door in 3 days, $15 a tire less than hoosiers locally. Guess who's getting my business.

Moral of this story.......if you can't get your pricing and quality in line with the competition, then you sure as hewl better have a better supply chain to make up for it. This consumer isn't willing to spend more for a lesser product that takes longer to get. ;)

Edit- stupid typos!

Never liked Hoosiers, except on dirt car. They make a "road race" tire they market under the American Racer brand name. They're soooo bad. They go off after about 2 laps. We raced with a guy that had them a few years back and they got so greasy on the 3rd lap, he spun in front of our car and tore up the nose.

Those BFG's won't stick near as well as a Hoosier QTP though.

Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on the combination.

Car weighs 3400+ lbs w/driver, 18 degree 436 cu sbc, has run as quick as 9.60's on motor, foobraked, NO MSD digital ignition with start line traction enhancers (slew rate or timing retard).

Car flat out works on BFG or M/T 315 tire. That pic was on a "marginal" start line at Mason Dixon Dragway typically 60'ing in the mid 1.3's.

Don't knock todays technology Drag Radial tires till you try them. More often than not the car will ET and 60' quicker on the radial compared to a bias ply tire. Their biggest disadvantage is they are hit or miss on a marginal track. Given a decent/good/excellent start line and look out! For bracket racing, surely a bias ply would be the weapon of choice for consistency.

If your talkin' about the white bu with destroyed cowl hood..no. :? I usually go down there when I'm in town. In fact, if the weather is good, I'll have the bu out and running this coming Saturday. Although I may have sprung an exhaust leak. I've seen a few members at SUDS. We really need to set up big MalibuRacing meet at SUDS for next year. It seems that every time I start post in the Meeting section my thread gets waxed cause the board goes down. Maybe I should start another one. Hmmm...Later on, Nick.
