12 bolt Driveshaft ?

im putting a 12 bolt in my 81 malibu i have a turbo 400 trans will i have to shorten the shaft? and if so by how much

i would recommend if you have to get it shortened get a heavy duty d/s made, two of my buddies have wrecked the small stock ones.

I have a 4in steel driveshaft already, the little factory peice went out a long time ago

Depends on how much yoke play you had with the old rear end... You need about .5"-.75" of yoke sticking out of the transmission, any less than that you could bottom the shoulder of the yoke on the end of the transmission housing on acceleration...
