What all do I need to swap in a 200 4r trans into a 79 Malibu Wagon? I want to do this swap for a summer daily driver that will see lots of long distance trips. Tell me anything you think I need.

not sure if the frame has multiple holes to slide it back..but on my 72 chevelle wagon..i just had to move the crossmember back to the next set of holes..i was just under my malibu(78) and didnt look to see if the g-body's have those extra holes..a very easy swap..just get good tv cable brackets..that will save future trouble..so it doesnt move on you..good luck

He'll need a Crossmember and the Frame Extension as the 78-83 G-bodies didn't come with the 2004R.
The link in my 1st Post above has the Info.

I need to find the TV bracket from a donor car. That is the piece that may give me trouble finding it. I have some donor cars available to me that I know have the crossmember, but I doubt they have the bracket as most have the engines pulled. I will start looking for the TV bracket and drive shaft and that should take care of my needed parts. I think that the TV cable is the same as the TH350 and the speedo cable is as well. I really like the idea of running in overdrive at 70 mph and being able to knock down 20 MPG with a carbed SBC and running the A/C.

you should be able to use a driveshaft from a t/h 350..i was able to reuse my d.s. on both my 72 wagon and my 69 camaro both were t/h/350's before the 200r4..i love the od..makes it so you drive them all over the place at 70-80mph. just put it in my wagon about a month ago ..i cant wait to how it cruises..it has a tpi in front of it..also stepped up to a 3.55 gear (from a 2.73)..cant wait for spring!!

The 2004R TV cable is different from the TH350's Detent cable.
What type Carb are you going to use? If a Q-Jet a donor car TV bracket will work but, it will need the Throttle shaft from a CCC/ComputerControlledCarb or Mods.

If Holley, Edelbrock or Demon you'll need an Aftermarket TV bracket + Geometry corrector bracket.

I just did this swap in my 84. Got the crossmember and frame extension from Iceman, throttle bracket, TV cable and lockup kit from Bowtie overdrives. Driveshaft works, cooler lines just need a little tweaking, definately need some different gears, I used 3.73's. Swap took a Sat with a helper and a few cold ones!
