I just converted the rear brakes on my 1980 Malibu (with ford 9 inch rear end) to the Right Stuff disc brake kit. The salesman said that the calipers were from a 1979 Eldorado.

What's the best master cylinder to use on my 80 with 4 wheel disc brakes?

Are there any master cylinders that are direct bolt ons with same size bore and fittings that have better performance braking with the rear wheel disc conversion?

Is the factory master cylinder for 1980 still the best one to use, just get a new one?

Thanks!

I used a cast iron 1-1/8" bore w/disc-disc prop. valve Corvette style master from Master Power Brakes. I'm sure there will be allot better options out there now. The valve located in the stock position w/no line adapters. I used the stock booster, stainless Grand National cylinder to valve lines (no line adapters needed). Also had to adjust the booster to master cylinder pin length. The system works flawless. Your stock master bore is either 7/8" or maybe 1", not sure. Pretty sure bore size will have to be 1-1/8" for disc/disc. These are what I used at the time I did the conversion. They weren't quite that spendy back then

Not sure why the page says for MANUAL?? I took the part number off my invoice.

This is my first disc brake conversion so what would be the reason to change the master cylinder to a bigger bore master now that I have disc/disc as oppose to disc/drum?

Theory is that now you will be needing to push more fluid to apply the rear brakes. Caliper piston size is allot larger than the original wheel cylinder size.

Please check this F&Q guide.

Hope that helps,
