7.5 ears

I have a good stock 7.5 rear and i'm going to junk it since no one wants it and i was thinking maybe i should cut off the upper mounts incase i need them to weld to a 9" in the future, can this be done or a waste of time ?

The top ears are cast. That will next to impossible to weld to a 9" since it's sheetmetal.

so i shouldn't care about saving the ears for any new rear in the future.

I've never tried it, but I have a feeling it would be a pain in the butt to grind those ears to fit a 9 inch housing. I could be wrong, but for the effort involved to grind them to fit and then to find a welder who is confident in welding cast to steel, I would just buy new ones. They make steel mounts just for that purpose and they don't cost too much.
