7.5 will it make it?

My BBC Elky grenaded 5 different rear, a few were posi units, 2 eatons and 2 auburns, bent axle and a bent axle tube, not in that order.

The only reason I kept it in there was cause i had a crap load of them laying around. The Elky is gone now But I have a 9 inch for my turbo car.

I got a 383 pushing 550 hp running 4.56 gears on 275/60's. All i did to my 7.5 is put some 8.5 axles in it and it hasnt broke yet, probably because im waiting for it to break so i can put my 8.5 under it but it wont brake when i want it to. i bet if i sell my 8.5 it will break the very next time out with my luck.

As long as it has aftermarket axles in it, it should be fine. A friend of mine has a Monte running in the 11's with a other than stock 7.5 with aftermarket axles, possibly an aftermarket posi (cant remember if he said that he did), a 9 inch slick and boxed lower control arms. He's shot a 200 off of the line on his 383 with a TH400 and 3.73 and it has held up suprisingly. Really he's just going to use it until it gives up even though I've showed him a couple decent deals on 8.5s.

I am not a fan of the 7.5, I would rather have a car I know will stay together rather than one I hope will stay together...

Broke 10 7.5's rearends in a summer I broke everthing in them that could be broke Axles,Posi units,Spider gears, caps off the housing, wheel studs. They don't like 4 speeds. My cousin had about the same luck He probably broke more than I did. I gave up on them and went to a stock 9" then to a 12 bolt then to a aftermarket 9". There was a guy here that ran 7.30's in the 1/8 with a BBC in late 80's Camaro and never had any problems. I don't think He had a transbrake and it was a stock 7.5.

I'm about to drop a 375 HP 350 into my 81 El Camino.It's got a 26 spline posi 7.5 and a now a Muncie wide ratio 4 speed.I don't drag race,but do like to romp through the gears.I'm thinking the 7.5 won't last with a stick?
Besides the expensive GN rear,do any other 8.5 GM rear work? I have a 8.5 posi from a 70's Gm midsize sitting here that is too wide. I can modify or fabricate control arms if needed.Or maybe just throw 300 bucks at the 8.5 I have to get it narrowed?

Run it untill it snaps. :)
84-87 G-Body Olds 442/HO's had 8.5"w/3.73, and the Buick T-Types have 8.5" w/3.42 like the GN/GNX, 87 Buick 3.73 was an option.

A- Bodies, 65-67 Chevelle 12-Bolt = 60" wide, 68-72 Chevelle 12-Bolt = 61" wide will work with aftermarket Upper Control Arms & rims with more backspacing.
70-72 Chevelle 8.5" 10-Bolt also. The Chevelle 12-Bolts aren't cheaper than the GN/442/HO/T-Type 8.5's

8.8" Mustang will work also with Mods. Can be found cheap.
