Your drivshaft can be shortened. It will be three inches shorter, But you should measure it to be sure.

Doug is correct ^^^ best to measure but, 3" shorter is the norm.

The stock driveshaft in my 84 was 52 1/2" and I found the 2nd gen f-body driveshafts are 3" shorter.

The original driveshaft (with 7.5-inch axle) is 52.5 inches long, so you need one that is 49.5 inches long.

In my experience, 1970-1981 F body driveshafts (from chevrolet V6/V8) are 1 inch too short (48.5) if your G body has a 7.5-inch axle. A 1981 F body driveshaft from a Buick V6 car is the right length (49.5).

I am told that the first gen firebird driveshaft is the right length.
