8.8 swap ?

ok iam doing the 8.8 swap on my 79 bu and i have heard that you can use 2 left side ranger axles to make it 5lug but i cant find what year the rangers had 8.8 axles all iam finding is 7.5? any one any idea what year or a part number thanks!

Dont have much to add other than Ive heard ford areostar vans have 5 lug axles that swap.

ya i had heard the same thing but you use the right side on them. but all i am finding is 7.5 rears not 8.8 they cant be the same axles can they?

using two ranger axles is correct, thats the common swap in the mustang world

use the 7.5" axles. 2 of the shorter one.

ok thanks i just didn't think the 7.5 were the right ones for the 8.8 housing but i was wrong

I don't know for sure,but I thought you could use the short axles from a Explorer/Moutaineer?

i had moser make me soem 31 splined axles.

Yes use 7.5 short ranger axle (drivers) and the passenger side aerostars 8.8's work also. Explorer axles are too wide and 31 splined. The others are 28 splined. Make sure your axles are out of boxy style rangers.

Just to let you know that when you put good power to those axles, the one that is on the opposite side of where it originally was when it was in its first life will want to break. You will be trying to untwist it.
