You do not need to backhalf the car for that kind of power. If you are bracket racing competively and don't want to be put on the trailer because of a traction issue, then it is not a bad idea. Most bracket guys are willing to leave a tenth on the table pushing that big tire if the car runs the same all day long.

a buddy of mine has a bbc malibu, and hes running 9.80's and his car will make into the mid to low 9's BUT he lacks the traction

like i said, it takes hours, and research to get your suspention tuned to run in the 9's on a 10.5 tire

If its for bracket racing, then its worth going to a big tire just for the tire wear savings alone.
