What amp alternator should i use with eletric fans ? plane on using OEM daul fans. Can i rebuild my alternator for more amps ? For a 81 malibu mild 355cid with 78amp alternator.I have a 87 amp alternator that needs rebuilding . Also have a large case (6 5/8) alternator from a 86 bonnneville that auto zones web site says its a 94 amp ? I would rather rebuild mine if posable. thank you.

I think that old original 10 SI case will only get you the 78 amps, if you want to have more capacity, I'd go with a CS series in the smaller case for up to 100 amps.

What beside the fans is going to be the load? The original should be fine for normal use.

Actually 60 to 80 amps is plenty for what you're doing.....

The CS series alternators are on every GM vehicle since about '88 or so.....smaller case, wiring isn't exactly the same, but an adapter plug is easy enough.

I can buy a rebuild kit from autozone or advanced auto parts to make my alternator put out 80amps.Jegs also sells a rebuild kit to make my alternator 100amp one wire hookup.Would one of those work? What parts inside makes the alternator 60,80,or 100amps?
