It looks like you have a split bench, so the passenger seat can't move forward enough to get the tire behind it.

Have you considered changing the passenger seat? Yes, an unrelated problem turns into a bigger project.

The smuggler box is the storage area behind the seat. The spare tire and other items you might put in the trunk. I hadn't given the change of seat much thought. I have been trying to keep it a 3 passenger, the middle for a grandchild.
