I am about to put new crank and rods in my engine and was wondering if it would be a good idea to get the rotating assembly balanced. Its a 383 SBC and I will have some AFR195 eliminator heads and a roller cam in it, no nitrous or forced induction. thanks.

I would balance it now instead of getting it in the car and finding out you have a vibration and have to take it back out and then you will know if its internally balanced or externally balanced.

I balance for alot of other shops and engine builders and I don't think I have seen one yet that you could have dropped in and not be a problem.

with the vast selection of rod/piston cominations its impossible for a crank to be even close to being balanced properly out of the box these days. spend the money.

X2. It'll seem to run smoother, too. I had my OEM 454 stock stuff balanced when I did the freshening. Even GM's balancing tolerances aren't really all that tight
