Car: 79 Malibu

Mods: Gutted interior and acc.

Engine: Small Block 350...300-400hp

Question:

1) What is the biggest slick we can fit in the rear w/out modifying frame? Will 26x10.5" fit w/ 15x8 4.5 bs??
2) What is the best slicks on the market? What tire is "best bang 4 ur buck"??
3) If tires hook, how much pwr can stock rear take before failure?

I would appreciate any input from experienced G Body racers. Thankz

After trying it myself I wouldn't recommend running slicks with the stock 7.5" diff.I got six passes on mine and that was only on circle track slicks.I was running 13.2s at the time.Seventh pass stripped the spiders. With the c-clip axles it isn't worth losing your car or your life IMO. I've had good luck with my Mickey Thompson ET street radials 275 50R 15 (26X10) on a 8" rim.I'm not sure if the 4.5" backspacing will fit.I think mine were 3.75" backspace.I run a 5.5" backspace rim now, but my diff is out of a fullsize Chrysler and is 2.5" wider on each side.

4.5" will not fit. You can fit a 28x10.5, with 3.5-3.75 backspacing without touching the rear frame rails.
