"roots" blowers are dead. psi screw chargers are another issue, they are very dominant in blower classes that allow them/ adrl px. the turbo tech is coming but still is not competitive in all out classes. example chuck ulsch in xtf in adrl. all blowers in px- record is 3.66 at 207 in the eighth
there are pros and cons of both... From what I have been told by the guy that's gonna help me tune is that the blower cars once set up are very reliable... and consistent... and my experience with turbos is that they do make a massive amount of power but wasn't consistent or reliable... But I would still do both over again... would say blower is prob better in the 1/8th mile and turbo in the 1/4 the top end charge is insane...
exactly. that's why i convinced my buddy to ditch his 6-71 and get a pair of 58mm snails, and his hp will be nearly double(900+hp vs 550)! can't beat exhaust driven boost!
I have a buddy that bracket races(footbrake) with a mildly modified Grand National and he has a h@!! of a time getting it to run the same number from pass to pass. The boost at the leave is very sensitive to even minute variances in rpms and make the 60's all over the place.
uhh i run a 6.71 and make over 1400hp!! i wouldnt say roots blowers are dead, they have there place you really cant make power any cheaper cept maybe nitrous, but the blower wont run out of gas or burn pistons if the tune up is off a little, i can make good reliable, consistant hp FOR MY BUDGET!! sure you can make more with turbos but its gonna cost more..
turbos cannot compete with a good screw setup as of yet. hp wise they are gaining massive ground. the 6-71 at 1400hp is either on alc. or slight bit o nitro in the tank I would guess and would also guess it doesn't last long spinnig it that hard(the blower). the screw guys- unless something goes wrong with the fuel or timing system will run multiple passes producing over 3600 hp on alc. alone. there is not a roots blower in existence that can duplicate the power curve of a properly tuned screw. thats the main reason for them being outlawed in nhra comp.
