I want to upgrade my front disc to 12" on my '79 malibu I have Hotchkis, however they have become to expensive, so can I use the BMR upper control arms instead?
Thanks for any help. BTW this is for a '80 malibu

No, those arms are the stock length and will create too much positive camber. The shim stack you would need to get the camber correct would be too thick. Offset shafts aren't enough either. To do the 12" brake swap you need a-arms made specifically for the taller b-body spindle, or an adjustable a-arm that has provisions for length adjustment.

Yes, as long as they have enough length adjustment. Most do.

You need to make them shorter, not longer.

I guess the way I said that does make it sound like they need to be longer, but when I said make sure they have enough length adj. I meant make sure they can be adjusted short enough. Some "roundy round" arms don't allow you to make them short enough for the b-body swap. The hex adjustment sleeves come in different lengths. Personally, I"m not a huge fan of these arms on a street car. The jam nuts can work loose and you can lose all your adjustment. I guess they could be set, then tack welded in place, but that seems like a lot of work to me.

If you lowered the car with shorter springs, couldn't you use stock length once again with the exception of BJ size discrepancies? the upper arm would be angling upward away fromt he car at that point requiring a longer arm. That starts to help negative camber gain on corners too. at stock height, I'm assuming B spindles bring the FUCAs (front upper control arms - couldn't resist) about level from the cross shaft to the BJ which is why they require a shorter arm. If not, maybe the spindle itself brings the BJ posistion inward and I'm wrong, but just something to consider. I have stock spindles, but my front was lowered to hell AND I did the Guldstrand mod where you lower the cross shaft mounting holes. Actually made a very noticeable improvement.
