changing 4x4 shaft on a th350?

I bought a built 403 olds with a th350 behind it, but it was in a jeep and its got the short 4x4 shaft. The transmission was supposedly also built with a B&M kit and it does have a the B&M torque converter. I have never worked on a transmission but have read I cant just change the tail to work with a 2wd, and must take it all apart to change the shaft itself. Is this worth it? Should I find another transmission? Thanks for any help.

you have to pull it apart , the shaft is the first thing to go in and the last to come out.
