Hi guys, well i have a little doubt about the engine for my car, first of all i have 250 stright six in mi 1982 Malibu Classic sedan and a TH200c transmission, pics here.

My doubt is what to do with the engine and I have been considering various options, i will like to know your opinion and advice.

My intention is to give more power to the car and still use it every day, im not looking for a race car or something like that but still make it faster and with better response.

1) Upgrade the 250 stright six. I have another block of the same type but the cilinders are already bore at .060 and would need another cilynder head. I was thinking a new cam, and replace drive gears with a chain, somethig like this.

Improved inhaust manifold and things like that...

2) Another engine, and here i have several options. V6 4.3 liter, V8 305, V8 307 or a V8 350, the last engine is more expensive in case to rebuild and also for the fuel....

Obviusly i have already considered the transmission and rear gears wich would be the first thing that i want to resolve.

I hope you could and thanks...

Here many people has replaced the 305 engine that come with the Chevy Silverado and many of those engines are literally abandoned. Exist and inhaust manifold that could replace the original TBI one and mount a carbureted manifold...

Ok finally i have the money and im going to change the engine, but firts i wan to know if the engine is the right one.

I found and engine from a Chevy Silverado, was a TBI engine so i need to buy a carburetor and a intake manifold. I found several "packs" in summit racing. The engine would be stock, not power up at least for now. So i want to know what you recomend to make a succesful convertion from inyected to carbureted engine. Also i would need a new radiator, fan, possibly alternator, starter and a distributor.

Any advice would really apreciated...

Here some packs i found on summit racing.

This link might help with your decisions. Also, I'm no TBI engine expert, but make sure the engine has provisions for a mechanical fuel pump if you plan to switch to a carburetor. Hope this helps. Good luck with your build.

If its a TBI motor it will have a provision for a fuel pump. These 638 block almost always came that way. If not then just put a electric fuel pump in the line and go from their. As for the radiator I would just get one for the car of the same year and get the other parts off of any thing that has a SBC in it.
