Well, I have been noticing that i have this kind of grinding nouse in my car. I have always thought it might have been a wheel bearing. I iliminated that i idea not to long ago when i installed APP wheel studs up front to match the ones in the back, to make it track legal. Well, I thought it had to be in the motor then, it would seem like it would only do it at about 25-30 mph and then when I am at around 10-15 mph it would slow and stop. It would stop right before I came to a complete stop. Well, I drove it to work and it seem to get worse. I put the car in second when I was coming to a stop for some reason and BINGO it stopped making that noise. I don't know what is making that noise in there? Anyone know what it could be? I am no transmission expert and have not real knowledge of them. So, lets hear the ideas.

It sounds like it could be the planetary gear if the nosie gose away when you put it in second.

Wear and tear would cause the planetary to get beat up, to fix it you would need to take the transmission apart and rebuild it while your in there. When was the last time you changed your transmission fluid?? Notice any debris or metallic flakes in it??

I just drained it cause I removed the motor and transmission. When I drained it I didn't notice anthing unusual. I am about to pull the pan this weekend and look in there. This better not be going bad as I just had the thing rebuilt about a year ago and I have only put about 500 miles on it if that. I spen $1000 getting all the goodies put in it for abuse at the track that it gets. I will let you know what I find in the bottom of the pan.
