I have built several harnesses from pieces of other harnesses. just get the schematics and some time and you can piece one together or thin out the one that you can get. its worth the time if you have the connectors you need.

I'm using a 99 or 00 model truck harness and it seems to lay pretty nice in the engine bay, but I do have a more room b/c of a smaller overflow tank and the battery is relocated in the trunk. Only thing is if you get a truck harness the sensor ends are a little different from the corvette's and f-bodies engines. It will work b/c I have a 02 Z28 engine with the truck harness but I had to change out some of the plug ins.

I did a complete Painless harness for my car.

If I was gonna do another LSx G-body I'd do what everyone else said.

why... what didn't you like about the painless one?
My guess would the price lol. Painless stuff is usually really good quality but it's really high for what it is IMO.
