Kill Switch wiring

What is the correct way to wire a kill switch?

When I got my Malibu it was already installed and wired
but it wont shut the car off if its running when I turn the switch to off.
I assume its running off the alt. It will not let the car turn over or start if its switched off and the car is already off.

Thanks, Rick

A few ? about the diagram. 1. Do I need to run a solenoid between battery and starter for it to work? 2. Shows only one wire for Alt. is that the red wire of post or is this showing a one wire set up? 3. If the one wire is the red from post on Alt. where do the clip wires go? I know this is an old post but only one I could find w/ drawing. Can't figure out why car keeps running after switch is turned off. Any tips/advice/thoughts would help tons!

That diagram's wrong, at least in terms of what a kill switch is supposed to do. ALL power in the car should be killed, not just the accessories & ignition. The wire from the starter to the batter should be on the N/O terminal of the kill switch. Also, the FIA/SCCA require the alternator wire to the battery be interrupted, too. I don't remember if the NHRA requires that. The best way is to use a multiple pole relay that is energized by the kill switch.

NHRA does not require the alternator wire to be killed, obviously it would be better, the trick deal is the two-pole shut off switch...
