I am picking up an 2000 LS1 with 32,000 odd miles on it for get this $500. THis guy wrecked his SS and the only thing he has is the motor and wants it gone. It comes complete with a set of headers and the MAF. I only need to get an EFI fuel system and the harness and computer. I figure a stand alone fuel system and a painless harness. Unless there is a better way. I want to install this into a Monte SS or a BU. What all do i need to do to convert this into an LSX? I want to make some serious power with this motor, i am wanting around 750HP. Let me know what all i need and how to go about doing it. I am an old school kind of guy and this EFI motors I am no that familiar with.

Thanks Eric

First off, LSX is a generic term for that generation of engines. example, LS1, LS2, LS3, LQ4, LM7, they all fall into the LSx category. Like a 283, 305, 350, and 400 are "all the same" base engine. Many parts interchange between the two.

Second off, Sounds like a great deal. But the only way to get 750 street hp out of one is with N20, Blower, or a turbo. Shouldnt take too much to get around 450-500 hp in street trim from one though, then just add a 250 shot :D

Ok, now that i have been beat up over my incorrect terminology. Maybe what i should have said was how to turn it into one potent little LS1. :-k

best answers are going to be on http://www.ls1tech.com How much are you willing to pay on a wiring harness? I know you can get the whole kit from speartech ect ect, or you can buy one from a truck and have it reworked to work with your application. What transmission are you trying to use with it? The questions become what are you trying to do with it? Do you want to run a power adder like Nitro or Turbo...how much moeny do you have to play with ect. Do you want to keep it FI or do you want to go with a carb setup on it. Let me/us know and I'll point you to the places to get the parts. My lsx swap included an lq9 with a set of headers from BRPhotrods and a small cam and is desktop dyno'd at 450 appx tq and 428 hp appx...with the aluminum block, a good set of pistons and a great top end like the one summit sells (they guarentee from 550-600+hp) with stock bottom end adn a ls6 intake. You can go a little bit bigger on intake with say the FAST 92mm setup intake/tb. Again, depends on what you want and look for.

Parts you will need
FI fuel sending unit and sumped tank, unless your going to get an aftermarket tank
fuel lines
crossmember depending on trans
motor mounts, dependign on preferences

Will you be wanting or nto wanting a/c...I can't remember how your car is setup, but I've got plenty of info and stuff saved to my computer and memory banks...heres a vid of a friend running his car...he has a good chunk of money, but it has the iron block 6.0 lsx with a rather large turbo and runs sideways down the 1/4 for a 9.x run every time in his transam. The car weighs right at 3900 lbs and rungs awesome. Also, if you want to run that much hp, I'd suggest finding a 4l80 2wd trans, they can take mass amounts of abuse.

Also you may want to look into a tuning kit like efilive or hptuners which will allow you to tune the car for your specs, such as race fuel or daily driver/nitro or not ect...

Well, i was really meaning to make it seem like you did. I am just new to the EFI world. I thought you converted them to the LSX.

Blubaldmontess you have alot of good advice and questions. I am going to take a few days to think about the way i want to run the motor. I have thought of alot of those things that you have suggested. I am going to read that site you posted and make me a list and see from there. Your buddies Trans Am is a total beast. I would love to run like that with it.

You want to talk, pm me and let me know, if you want I can give you my number, its easier to talk over the phone than over the computer because of time ect...but if you have 15-20 minutes to talk, I can explain a lot to you, teh different options and help guide you to what you're looking for without having to do it like I did over and over again :D

We're all here to help each other and learn from others mistakes. Again, just let me know.

You don't need to get a fi sending unit if you're going to sump the tank. If you sump the tank, just get an aeromotive a-1000 pump and run a return line to your stock sending units feed side.

FI fuel sending unit and sumped tank, unless your going to get an aftermarket tank
fuel lines
crossmember depending on trans
