MSD 6AL Tach and Shift Light Wiring

Hey boys!
Getting ready to head to the track next weekend. Wondering if anyone can help me with an electrical question....

I want to hook up a shift lite.(running a manual 6 speed)

I am using a MSD 6AL box. I have a MSD distributor with the mag pick up plugged into the distributor.

I am currently using the "tach output" wire to trigger my Autometer tach (small tach that only reads rpm)

I have a MSD rpm activated switch pt# 8950 . The wiring diagram from MSD shows that I should hook up the switch from the tach output on the 6AL box. I understand that but how do I ALSO keep the tach connected?? Can I run the rpm activated switch AND the tach from the same tach output on the 6al box? What I mean is can I splice the "tach output" wire from the box to trigger the switch AND trigger the tach?
Done this before or any help?

yes and yes your 6al box should of come with a y type setup for the tach,http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-8911/ you can make this yourself no problems three female spades and 2 pieces of wire and some shrink wrap
