Question about drop spindles and backspacing

Anybody running 245/45/17 tire, 17x8" wheel with 4.5" BS, 2" drop spindles? Rubbing issues? Tie rod interference issues?

I recently changed front suspension setup to stock height coil springs (Moog 5600) with Belltech 2" drop spindles. I'm currently running 15x7 MCSS wheels with 3.75" BS and a 215/7/15 tire. The tire is rubbing close to the outside edge of the wheelwell. The tire is too tall and seems like I need more backspacing. So, I'm considering purchasing 17x8" wheels with 4.5" backspacing. Will these wheels have any interference issues with the tie rod? Anybody else running something similar that can tell me if I will have rubbing issues (245/45/17 tire, 17x8" wheel with 4.5" BS, 2" drop spindles)?

The 17" tire/wheel combo will have more backspacing and the tire will be almost 1" smaller in overall diameter, which I hope will center the tire better in the wheelwell and not rub, especially with the smaller overall diameter tire. I'm mainly concerned about rubbing the inner side of the wheelwell and tie rod clearance.

Thanks,

I had that combo on the Wagon but with 2" drop springs instead of spindles and I could turn at full lock (monte SS box) No rubbing anywhere..

Cool, that helps a lot with the concerns about tire rub.

I don't believe the tie rods will be an issue with the 17" wheels, but I would like to also hear from someone that has run the drop spindles and wheels with 4.5" backspacing. I read that a guy was having trouble with that issue, but I believe he was running 15" wheels.

I'm not sure about the spindles moving the wheels out, what I do know is with with 3rd gen 15x6 aluminum F-Body wheels, the wheel itself rubs on the a-arm at full lock, not sure if it's the "4 fronts" or "4 rears" I see mentioned on occasion (maybe that's just GTA wheels?). I have Belltech 2100 spindles, same as what is used on the S10 and from what I could tell I don't think it moved the wheels out at all.

I also used the Belltech 2100 spindles. What size wheels and tires are you running Doober?

They're just stock 15x6 3rd gen Z28 wheels, I believe the tires are 215/60. The tires don't rub, but the wheels scrape like crazy on the a-arms. I have a pair of 15x7 American Racing Outlaw Is on the rear and a pair to match the front, just need some shorter tires... I'm not sure if I'll swap those onto the '78 when it's time to drive it (to do stuff on the cheap for now) or go ahead and get a set of 17" wheels for the used 275/40/17s on a set of 17x9 (maybe 17x10?) Camaro wheels.

A friend had a 1986 Caballero with MCSS wheels with 215/65/15 tires and his tires rubbed the outside of the inner fenders at the top of the tire from bumps. The front suspension was stock. The track width looked to be a bit wide in front.

Mine is belltech 2100 spindles, moog 5662 springs, with zq8 s-10 rims, no scraping left to right but with 245/50R16's it rubs on the outer part of the inner fender liner on bumps, from what I can tell these rims are 16x8 with 4.25 backspacing, I have maybe 1/4 inch from rim to outer tie rod end also, hth
