I am in the process of replacing my rear end in my 79 malibu. My father suggested that I can find an 8.8 relatively cheap, and have someone weld on new brackets so it can bolt up to the chevy. My issue is not finding the rear, but finding someone who can modify it. Does anyone know who would be able to perform such a modification/what makes an indvidual reputable vs fly by night? Any info or pointers would be helpful.

There are bolt on conversion kits available for the 8.8. You cannot reliably weld to a cast iron center section.

Where would i be able to find such a kit? I sent TRZ motorsports an email, however they said they do not carry it anymore due to geometry issues. I have looked all over the net, but i am coming up empty.
