I am conteplating removing the side moldings. The car has its original paint. First off, is it painted underneath? and secondly, if it is painted, after all these years, will I be able to compound it to "blend"? or will it be a re-paint? thx

yes it is painted under them, but depends on how sun baked/ faded the original color is weither or not you will be able to buff it to match

Thanks SLICK78 for replying. I guess I will try the small piece of trim in front of the front tire and see what happens. I just dont want a seemingly small job turn into a big PIA, but I dont know why this should be any different. :|

I pulled mine on both my 79 wagon and my 78 coupe and the fading was almost non-existant so have at it.

I finally got around to trying it tonight. I tried with the small piece on the fronf fender. I used a heat gun and some fishing line to act like a saw. After about 1/2 way, it started lifting the paint.
The good news I got new wheels and tires on :D
