i agree with not spending money on that 7.5. a dollar NOT spent on a 7.5 is a dollar earned

save your money and buy a better rearend.

You'll get more satisfaction out of polishing your helmet than your 7.5'...
If you'll have $1300.00 in it you're more than 3/4 of the way to a decent 9".

I don't plan on any more than $1,000 personally, if that much.

Everything you cannpretty much do to one can be done for under a grand. That's why I'm thinking about keeping it and useing it. I'm not dead set on it yet but it might just happen

:-k I've seen 8 1/2 GN rears for around $600- $900, and an early 8 1/2 from a 68-72 Chevelle, or any early mid size GM, can be had fairly cheap. You could build a pretty bulletproof 8 1/2 out of one of those for way under a grand. Look at all the options out there, and I think u can get a pretty big bang for ur buck. I've seen 8 1/2 housings at the swap meets cheap, and most of the stock car guys get rid of their posi units in favor of a spool, and I have seen a decent pair of aftermarket axles at swap meets fairly cheap. I found a 8 1/2 bare housing from a 71 Cutlass at a junkyard for 40.00-- found a posi from an old state police car for 65.00, and picked up a nice used set of Moser axles at a swap meet for $150.00, and after buying all new bearings, seals, and misc stuff, spent less than $450.00 for mine. Do some homework and look at every option-- Good Luck-- Dean 8)

Another factor is stick vs. auto. In an auto, I have heard the 7.5s hold up to more power, but not even 400 at the rear with an stick.

I guess I drive like an idiot then becasue i've broken my 7.5" twice when it was an auto and twice since I converted it to a 4spd muncie :D Never been on a racetrack, had 255/60/15 with the auto and 245/50/16 with the stick. Every time it was the ring and pinion that let go. The third set was a Richmond that was professionaly setup. last time I just grabbed some 3.73's from a 4cyl 2wd s10 and slapped them in. Gave up and just installed a GN 8.5" with a Detroit Tru-Trac this spring and i'm SO happy with it :D
