hi, i dont know if it makes a difference ,but i'll ask anyhow. will it make a difference on the spark plug gap if i use a h.e.i dist. that my motor originally didn't have? the motor is a 1973 454. what shall i set the plug gap at? thank you. carl
Stock HEI can use a .035-.040 gap. Better coil and module and wires can go to .045. Shouldn't make any difference whether it was originally a points dist, just make sure you've got full 12v going to an HEI.
Depending on the applications the wider the plug gap is the better the chance of knock out the spark even with an MSD system installed this can happen.....
With your HEI set-up you'll be fine at .030-.035 gap..
