I think he was talking about the GM 2.8 V6... they're definitely not GM's shining star :lol: I had the same engine in my '85 S10. My dad & I replaced the rod/main bearings & crankshaft, and after a few months of driving it stopped showing oil pressure below 1,000-1,500rpm, and a cam lobe or two was worn off.

oops...now that I reread, I see. I had no idea that a GM V6 was ever in a Cherokee. I thought they always had a version of the AMC 232/258 straight 6.

Yeah, that GM V6 was about as useful as a football-bat. But the 4.0 is a strong engine. There are alot you can do to one of those. I have a few friends in the military with me that have cj's and what not , and have the 4.0's built up.
See if any of them will let you take out their CJ or Wrangler steering shaft and measure it fully collapsed. Look at the ends, too.
My buddy has a '91 YJ with a stroked 4.0 he built (4.6?). Even with 38s (I think? Not really sure) it pulls very hard for being a 6 cylinder.

I wonder if a Celebrity dash could be made to fit G body. I might just try it if I can find one and take measurements. I like it alot better than malibu dash's
