I think he was talking about the GM 2.8 V6... they're definitely not GM's shining star  I had the same engine in my '85 S10. My dad & I replaced the rod/main bearings & crankshaft, and after a few months of driving it stopped showing oil pressure below 1,000-1,500rpm, and a cam lobe or two was worn off.

oops...now that I reread, I see. I had no idea that a GM V6 was ever in a Cherokee. I thought they always had a version of the AMC 232/258 straight 6.

For a while Jeep was owned by GM (Buick?), and they used the Buick V6, and it was also a popular retro-swap.

Yeah, that GM V6 was about as useful as a football-bat. But the 4.0 is a strong engine. There are alot you can do to one of those. I have a few friends in the military with me that have cj's and what not , and have the 4.0's built up.

I wonder if a Celebrity dash could be made to fit G body. I might just try it if I can find one and take measurements. I like it alot better than malibu dash's
