Anyone know the diameter of the stock tach gauge for a 78' Bu? I want to replace my stock unit with an aftermarket one that will fit in the stock location. Also, considering that I'm running an Accel 300+ spark box, should I continue using analog type gauge or switch to a digital? :?:

I wanna guess it's around 3". You say analog/digital, are you talking about staying with a needle or going with a digital readout? Many of the new tachs (gauges in general) nowadays have stepper motor circuitry that is quite accurate, and unless you want the all-digital look, I'd stick with an analog face. Much cooler looking imo ;)

I'm not big on the digital look so keeping the needle would be cool, I would just like an aftermarket unit that is more accurate than the stock unit, but one that will fit in the stock location without major surgery being required.

Those are way cool, but which goes in with the least amount of effort?

There will be some sort of fab work with just about any gauge you use. My personal thought on the matter is use a piece of aluminum stock you can mount to the factory cluster housing, remove the factory gauges, and route the wiring through the cluster housing.
