trans help please ?

my Girlfriend was change'n the oil and trans fluid on the MonteCarlo today and found this in the trans pan ! does any one reconize it ?? we changed the fluid a bout a month ago and it wasnt there then, the car has ran fine and been incredably consistant ,

That holds the speedo drive gear on the output shaft.

If you aren't going to use the speedo drive, you can toss that in the spare parts pile.
