is there a minimum amount that the yoke should be sticking out of the transmission? with the rear end hanging (the car's on jackstands), there's approx 1" of the yoke's machined surface visible. i assume that will decrease by a little when i sit the car down and a bit more when the car squats during the launch.

you want .75"-1" of machined seal surface when the diff is under the weight of the car but the front end must be on the ground to take the weight of the front end properly. It is hard to determine if it correct when the diff is down with the geometry and all of that fun stuff unless someone here drops their diff to measure. But all drivelines are measured in the running posisition.

half inch is the bitter minimum unless you have next to no upward differential travel.

I had a new one made and I gave them the dimensions, when they made the new one with the new spicer 1350 yoke my 3/4" went to about 1/2".. I measured it when I picked it up and told them I wasn't sure if it was gonna work but being in a crunch to get my car back together I took it anyway... Guess I have a little play when I go to a 1350 rear yoke!

just remember that a 1350 diff yoke has a longer c/l to pinion nut face also the total length(in most cases) so your shaft may have to be shortened at THEIR cost imo. As the mechanics 3R yokes were propriatary to GM so the dimensons are always a little off.
