I had 225/75/14 on my 1979 V6 wagon, but that was because it was what was available new for my price. They were pretty tall and worked well, but I also had different gearing than you; I had 4.03 1st and 2.73 rear.

My car isn't on the road yet, and probably won't be for awhile. I bought some 15" by 7" Vette style rallys to put on it, and I was thinking about going with 235/60s all around, but after looking this thread over, I may consider something a bit narrower. I want to take out the 229, and put in a mild 4.3, swap the 3 speed for a T5, and I'm thinking about swapping a 3.08 posi rear axle that I have here. I can't tell you how its going to work just yet, because right now, its just a plan.

I would say aim for a cruise rpm around 2000. 235/60 would be a decent height, about 26" and would do a reasonable job filling the wheelwell (as opposed to looking too small). They would make around 770 revs/mile - 2000rpm in 4th at 60 would call for 2.59 specifically, but if you're planning on a T5 you could go past 3.08, because with that tire height 60/70mph would only put you at 1500/1700 respectively. A 3.42 at 60/70 would put you around 1600/1900 which would be good for a mildly built engine... it would keep load down and vacuum up - better fuel atomization and air/fuel velocity.

Brian,

Are you happy with the 235/55R16s? Any objections? Can you "burn rubber" with them? Inquiring minds want to know!!!

I wish I went bigger. The old 267 could roast these tires. Lol
